Tony Truchard and wife Jo Ann are the best kind of wine people. They’re farmers. And if that weren’t enough, they’re farmers from Texas. In 1972 while stationed out in San Francisco during the war, Tony (a Texas doctor) spent his savings on an abandoned prune orchard in the Carneros region. At the time Carneros was thought to be too cool for ripening grapes and that the clay soils of the area offered little ground water for irrigation. Tony proved both theories wrong. His ingenuity and determination helped pave the way for drip irrigation farming in California wine and he would become one of the founders of the Carneros AVA. Over the past 45 years, they’ve raised a winery, raised the quality of farming and raised a family who have gone on to become part of the wine tradition. We are thrilled to have their son Anthony Truchard share this rich history and these wonderful wines at Backstreet.
Join us on May 15th when we host Anthony and celebrate this multigenerational family farm, their dedication to sustainability and their fantastic wines. There is no better guide than someone who grew up on this very land.
$110 per person plus tax & gratuity
